There's always so much to see, hear, eat and absorb at Jazz Fest but we always take time out to check out the art at some point in the day. Roger, Juannie and I were all simply amazed at the work of Nicario Jimenez. He creates retablos using potatoes, plaster of Paris, a long toothpick and paint. I'm feeling antsy because I am off tomorrow for Jazz Fest so I quickly put together this Photo Flick of Bess and Rocky.

One of the many stages at Jazz Fest is the Fais Do Do Stage. It features acts performing zydeco and Cajun music.  The traditional cajun ball is known as the " fais do-do " in reference to the mothers who stamped their feet with impatience on the edge of the dance floor waiting for their children ( Read more... )

To truly do justice to the Jazz Fest experience I must mention one of the best Fest pasttimes: people watching. It is a smorgasbord of the beautiful and not-so-beautiful people. Lots of fun and creative outfits along with those ensembles that defy description but not notice from other Fest-goers.

Another day of Jazz Fest! The only thing missing is Juannie. He's in Austin for more storm preparation meetings so I am off to spend the day with Roger. I will be seeing Marva Wright and Angélique Kidjo who are two of my favorite ladies ever.

We had a fine time soaking up the sun, fun and music on the first day of Jazz Fest 2006. As we danced, ate and drank our way around the Fairgrounds, we enjoyed the music of the Creole Wild West Mardi Gras Indians, Bryan Lee & The Blues Power Band, Keb' Mo', Terrance Simien & The Zydeco Experience and Yerba Buena.
